With the world cup looming there is a row over whether Fifa should contribute towards the conservation of the Brazilian three-banded armadillo, the mascot for the competition.
Since money is most likely being made from merchandise of the mascot you would hope that some money will be pumped back into conservation of the species. Let’s hope a beneficial agreement can be made.
Conservationists in Brazil are challenging football's governing body Fifa to do more to protect the animal that inspired this summer's World Cup mascot. The Brazilian three-banded armadillo is listed as a vulnerable species and is the basis of the Fuleco mascot that will feature on official merchandise and souvenirs.
